SummerSlam 2009
WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
Rey Mysterio (©) VS. Dolph Ziggler
Jesse: Oh the good old Rey Mysterio matches. I'll spare Lonnie this time and pick Dolph the dufus.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Morgan: I know that in the process of learning, repetition is key, but I think we all have gotten the point. Dolph will continue to try, Rey will continue to beat him, at least for the time being.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
Andy: I hate to say it but I think Rey Mysterio's reign as champion has lasted too long. Usually a rematch like this from a previous pay-per-view doesn't end with the same result so I'm picking Dolph Ziggler in my upset of the night. However, I think Mysterio will bounce back and regain the title at the September pay-per-view.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Devin: This should hopefully be another good match even though I have no clue. I can't stand either and really I don't care that Ziggler's name is an introduction and I don't care about Rey Mysterio and the 619 (614 is where it's at). Still it will be a good match and I went against Mysterio last time and I'm going against him again. Ziggler getting a Hardy type second chance at the title and hopefully he takes advantage of it.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Jon: I think the WWE might be trying to give Rey a big run to try to cement his name in history as having one of the greatest IC reigns in WWE history. Rey and Jericho had, in my view, the feud of the year thus far with Rey coming out of it with the title. To say that Jericho couldn't come out with the title but Dolph could is dumb. I'm taking Mysterio once again and will gladly gain a one match advantage already on Lonnie.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
Lonnie: So maybe I was wrong on this match last month, but I will get it right this time around. You might think Dolph did not win the belt last month because he is not good enough, but in truth the WWE just wanted him to wait and win it on a bigger stage, SummerSlam. Dolph pinned Rey this past Friday on SmackDown and SummerSlam will be no different.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
John Bob: So I was correct last month when I said Rey would win. But I also said that I wouldn't be surprised if Dolph eventually got his hands on the title. I think now is the time for him to do it. I say Dolph wins and gets the biggest win of his career to date when he win his first singles title.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
The Great Khali VS. Kane
Jesse: I have a feeling this match is going to be like an elevator ride with random people. It's awkward and you just want it to end.
Winner: The Great Khali
Morgan: Usually when I am unsure of who to pick, I go by size difference, but in this case they are both huge, so that really isn't an option. Plus, my theory of the sizes hasn't been the most productive. In this case, I'll have to go with Kane, he hasn't failed me yet, he hasn't had the chance.
Winner: Kane
Andy: So instead of having a United States Championship match they book this one instead? Really? Glad I won't be watching this one. Toss-up: Great Khali is heads, Kane is tails. It's tails and Kane with the victory.
Winner: Kane
Devin: This match is one I have really been looking forward to. David vs. Goliath and the best part is Kane would be David! I say this will be a classic show of strength and a subpar showing of wrestling skill. Still it should be good. I am going with Khali in this one even though David does beat Goliath. Kane just hasn't been the same for me since he lost his mask and really needs that mask back because his face drops the ratings. Vickie's voice was worse but still he cannot compete with the Punjabi playboy.
Winner: The Great Khali
Jon: The Great Khali turned into somewhat of a joke with the kiss cam and to be honest that's where he is best used. Kane has been a good wrestler in the WWE for over 10 years and deserves a push. A win over Khali would be a nice place to start.
Winner: Kane
Lonnie: I really don't know what to say here. Neither of these guys win that often on pay-per-view so this is incredibly hard to pick. For the sole fact that I like him better I am going to have to go with Kane.
Winner: Kane
John Bob: This match was terrible at WrestleMania 23 (take it from me...I was there), and I have no reason to believe this time will be any different. Hopefully this will be short. As for the winner...I don't see either guy doing much in the future so it's a toss up. I'll go with Khali.
Winner: The Great Khali
Jack Swagger VS. Montel Vontavious Porter
Jesse: Why does WWE try to make MVP into the next big star? I'm surprised he hasn't got a WWE Championship shot yet. I just hope he gets beat.
Winner: Jack Swagger
Morgan: I have always been a fan of MVP, and Jack Swagger just seems so cocky. Swagger hasn't exactly had the greatest of years when it comes to pay-per-views, and to be honest, he is to me, sub-par ECW material. But then again, MVP really hasn't had such a stellar year either, but I have more faith in him than Swagger. Maybe this time MVP will pull through enough for me to be correct in this pick.
Winner: Montel Vontavious Porter
Andy: Simple Colbert math gives you the winner of this match: SummerSlam + Los Angeles + Staples Center + Basketball + Lakers + Kobe Bryant + MVP = Montel Vontavious Porter! Ballin'!
Winner: Montel Vontavious Porter
Devin: I can't wait for this match simply because both Swagger (speech impediment and all) and MVP are two of the best current young wrestlers in the WWE today. Both are former wrestlers and it's going to be really close. I got to go with MVP because really I like MVP (even though he has shifted from his original character which I enjoyed) more than Swagger or should I say Sswagga (depending on who says it). MVP, I feel, is a better United States title candidate than Swagger. Could you imagine if we had to add another American to the front of Swagger's name? Hilarious, yes but unnecessary and even more stupid than his speech impediment and also there is an image the United States title must maintain. Swagger doesn't fit the bill quite yet, he should be going after the second rate ECW championship that is always being put on the line.
Winner: Montel Vontavious Porter
Jon: Toughest match of the night for me to call simply because nothing is on the line. A couple months ago I thought they were going to move MVP into the WWE title picture. Since then they have had him do pretty much nothing. Sssswagger has been rising like crazy ever since he got into the WWE. It depends on who they push. Swagger vs. Cena stole Raw a long time ago and I'd love to see that for the WWE title.
Winner: Jack Swagger
Lonnie: This has been a great mid-card feud that has not been centered around a championship for a change. Because of this either man could win this one. I feel that whoever wins this match could be in position to go up the card and challenge for the WWE Championship. Because of who I think will win the WWE Championship match, I think the winner will be...
Winner: Jack Swagger
John Bob: This is probably the hardest match for me to predict for the reason that nothing is on the line and both men are at the same level on the Raw roster. Hopefully whoever wins this will be on there way to the main event scene as we need some fresh faces at the top. Although I could see this going either way, Swagger is my choice as I think he has a brighter future with the company and could be a big star for years to come given his young age.
Winner: Jack Swagger
ECW Championship Match
Christian (©) VS. William Regal
Jesse: William Regal is still around? Well maybe he can drink some power tea before the match and some how pull an upset. On second thought, I doubt it.
Winner: Christian
Morgan: Aha, I knew the sub-par championship match had to be coming, and I found it. Christian will win. It's William Regal....He's English. I don't have much else to say.
Winner: Christian
Andy: I keep forgetting that William Regal is still in the WWE because he's done a whole lot of nothing lately. Back in 2001, I'd take Regal over Christian but that was in the day when he could win the European Championship and stay off my TV. Christian is more charismatic, agile, younger, and not as fat so he'll retain the title.
Winner: Christian
Devin: Ah every pay-per-view has a match that I seem to not really care about, view as filler, and this match happens to be it. The only good thing about this match is that both are good wrestlers. But beyond that no one cares because the ECW title is a second rate title and ECW is basically the revolving door of the WWE. You're either on your way in or out and those who can't seem to figure it out are stuck going in circles. I feel Regal is on his way out, so I have to go with Christian who is stuck going in circles.
Winner: Christian
Jon: As a proud member of the peepulation, I don't see Christian losing to a good wrestler that's not very over with the fans. Christian just got the title back last month from Tommy “The Mighty DDT” Dreamer. I don't think they are gonna take it away from Christian after only holding it for a month.
Winner: Christian
Lonnie: He is a very solid wrestler and one hell of an entertainer, but William Regal is no champion. In what I feel is one of my two locks of the night Christian should win here. After this he can go on to fight Kozlov or hopefully someone better.
Winner: Christian
John Bob: This match seems thrown together at the last minute to me. I really hope Christian doesn't drop the title just yet. Regal has recruited Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov to be in his corner which could be enough to give him the win. Regardless, I hope Regal doesn't win. I'm thinking Regal's buddies will cause him to get disqualified and give Christian the win and they will have a rematch down the road where either man could win.
Winner: Christian
Unified Tag Team Championship Match
Cryme Tyme VS. Chris Jericho & Big Show (©)
Jesse: Really? Cryme Tyme fights like once a month. It's time to redo the tag divisions now. But until then Jericho and Show will dominate.
Winners: Chris Jericho & Big Show
Morgan: As much as I dislike both Big Show and Chris Jericho, I think they will hold on to their titles. Individually, both lose miserably on pay-per-views but together, it's like peanut butter and jelly. Better than peanut butter or jelly alone, but still not too spectacular. And considering all I have seen or heard of Cryme Tyme, is their mini show on the website, I guess I have to go with Chris Jericho and Big Show.
Winners: Chris Jericho & Big Show
Andy: I'm going with my gut on this one and picking Y2J and Big Show. I know Big Show is the ultimate loser, but I think they'll retain the titles so they can stay in the spotlight.
Winners: Chris Jericho & Big Show
Devin: Yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo.....yo It's about time Cryme Tyme gets a shot at the tag titles and who better for them to steal it from than the rich stuck up characters Jericho and Big Show are portraying. I can't even take Big Show seriously with that blue wrestling attire and his dumb Daughtry style hair cut. Oddly though, Jericho and Big Show have been too busy fighting everyone else, so I don't see them as a true tag team. They are going to implode and it will start with this match. Hopefully, Cryme Tyme finally makes the tag belts into one belt and auctions off the set of belts at a SmackDown show.
Winners: Cryme Tyme
Jon: I love Cryme Tyme's gimmick. With that said, if it wasn't for Shaq these two probably wouldn't be on the pay-per-view. In fact, I haven't remembered seeing Cryme Tyme consistently on pay-per-view for...I don't know if its ever happened. Jericho is good, the Big Show is not...Team Jericho wins.
Winners: Chris Jericho & Big Show
Lonnie: For how involved Show and Jericho have been involved on all the shows I feel that they will retain. The Tag Team Champions are allowed to be on all three shows, and lets face it...It is more valuable to have Chris Jericho on TV than both members of Cryme Tyme combined. I think this will be a great match if the Big Show stays on the apron.
Winners: Chris Jericho & Big Show
John Bob: Thanks to Shaq, Cryme Tyme has looked like more of a threat to the tag titles than ever. However, I don't think the WWE wants to pass up the idea of allowing Jericho and Big Show to wrestle on all brands. For that reason, I expect Jericho/Show to retain but Cryme Tyme will look good in the process and they will still be over with the fans.
Winners: Chris Jericho & Big Show
D-Generation X VS. Legacy
Jesse: A D-X victory is about as sure a thing as the sun coming up in the morning.
Winners: D-Generation X
Morgan: Hah! Honestly this is a match? There is no doubt in my mind that Legacy is going to fail miserably. It's Legacy, Randy Orton's butt buddies. Alone Legacy has no chance. This spawns not only from my dislike of them, but because the only reason they have names and are where they are, is because they are as stated above, Randy Orton's butt buddies, or play toys, if you will. D-Generation X will put Legacy down.
Winners: D-Generation X
Andy: I've been doing some research and it appears that D-X never loses at their first pay-per-view after a reunion. That really doesn't surprise me considering a D-X loss would greatly disappoint the WWE Universe. Also, after seeing Legacy beat up D-X this past Monday on Raw I am very confident that D-Generation X will return the favor at SummerSlam. And will somebody please tell Triple H for the last time that I'm ready.
Winners: D-Generation X
Devin: This match should be one of the most enjoyable matches of the night especially because we have on one side the gay butt buddy body guards of Randy Orton and on the other we have the guys who tell everyone to suck it. Now, I'm not saying that Shawn and HHH want Cody and Ted to suck it but I just wanted to point it out. Anyhow, D-X is going to win. Legacy knows they can't win a match heads up against them and now they are forced to face two future WWE Hall of Famers and two of the most dominant wrestlers of all time. Legacy is still what their name says a Legacy and not Legends like their opponents. So really I would look for some hysterical moments coupled with some cheating and D-X still pulling it out.
Winners: D-Generation X
Jon: D-X is back. This will make for great promos. It doesn't matter who they were fighting I would still take D-X, especially since Shawn has been gone for so long. Legacy is a good tag team so that should make this match good unlike when D-X were fighting the male cheerleaders. All the little kiddies will have the green glow sticks crossing to form an “X” and there will be plenty of pyro. Legacy will counter with a slow walk to the ring and combining to have half as much muscle as HHH. Are you ready?
Winners: D-Generation X
Lonnie: Legacy has got the upper hand recently and D-X is just returning. Well this one is easy to pick...
Winners: D-Generation X
John Bob: So D-X is back for their 15th reunion! Woohoo!! I don't think they have ever lost a match when they first get back together so I don't think this will be any different. Although I'd love to see Legacy win, it's just not going to happen. I just hope this match isn't a total squash.
Winners: D-Generation X
TLC Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Jeff Hardy (©) VS. CM Punk
Jesse: I'm really not sure who the heel or face is in this match, but I want to see some high risk spots. If not then I'm boycotting face paint for the rest of my life.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Morgan: This is a match that for some reason I believe we have seen before. Oh yeah, at The Bash and Night of Champions. It should again be a good match, but we've seen it before. And as much as I want to go with CM Punk, the last two pay-per-views, I went with CM Punk over Hardy, and he failed me. So I'd like to go with Punk, but I can't. It pains me to say this, but Jeff Hardy.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Andy: I have greatly enjoyed being the only person to correctly pick Jeff Hardy the last TWO times to beat CM Punk, but I fear that the feel good story will come to an end at SummerSlam. CM Punk seems to have a great track record of retrieving objects from the top of ladders (two Money in the Bank victories) and I think he'll continue this dominance. I'll go with the crowd this time and take CM Punk in my heel victory of the night.
Winner: CM Punk
Devin: I absolutely hate what I'm about to say but I have to go with Jeff Hardy. I may hate Hardy with a passion but I know better than to go against him in a match that suites his character. I feel that neither should actually be champ and really I'm forced to take one. I guess I have to go with Hardy and his suicide style. This match is going to brutal because both characters are known not to ever give up.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Jon: I love CM Punk because he doesn't like Jeff Hardy. From Hardy's face paint, by the way usually people that get their face painted are 6 year old girls at the fair, to his arm sleeve things. This should be a great match especially with the TLC stipulation. I have a feeling though, that when Hardy gets on a ladder won't be the only time that he is high that night. Hardy will win.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Lonnie: I was very surprised when Jeff won the championship last month as I thought it was the wrong move for the company to make. I still feel it was the wrong move, and therefore I believe Punk will win here. There will be plenty of crazy spots in this match by Jeff that should make it very entertaining, and I hope CM Punk is willing to crazy stuff as well to get him a trademark win in his career that fans will remember other than his Money in the Bank victories.
Winner: CM Punk
John Bob: This will probably be match of the night. Rumor has it that Jeff may be leaving the company. Whether that is true or not...who knows? I expect both men to go all out and put their bodies through hell to try to win. If Jeff is leaving, this is the perfect kind of match for him to get "injured" and be written out of the company. CM Punk will get his revenge and regain the title. Hopefully, he can feud with the likes of John Morrison and Undertaker in the months to come.
Winner: CM Punk
WWE Championship Match
Randy Orton (©) VS. John Cena
Jesse: I like to compare Randy Orton's title reigns to the song American Pie. It's boring and been going on for way to long. And I hate to ever pick the terribleness that is John Cena but picking this match is like picking what smells worse a turd or vomit.
Winner: John Cena
Morgan: I guess it isn't hard to guess who I am going to go with. I really hate Orton, so as long as there is someone to oppose him, I will go against him. In this case, I get to actually pick someone I like, and I also get to pick the one who will win. Orton's reign is over, John Bob. Cena will be skinning this viper.
Winner: John Cena
Andy: This has "John Cena Victory Party" written all over it. There would be nothing bigger than to have Cena win the last match of the night at SummerSlam in Los Angeles. Orton's time is over for now and Cena wins in my face victory of the night. And on a side note, I would love for Cena to join D-X and face Legacy in a 6 man tag match at the next pay-per-view. I don't think it will happen but you never know.
Winner: John Cena
Devin: Now for the main event of the night and the match that will most likely separate the current second place tie between John and I. I have to go with Cena, partially because I know John is taking Orton but also because I’m tired of this Age of Orton. Orton needs to do something other than run for the hills and hopefully he doesn’t get away with it in this match. If the match is a full uninterrupted match Cena will win. Hopefully that's what happens because Orton is a punk and in Cena’s own words "Orton will do anything to keep the title around his waist" and Orton can disqualify himself to hold on the title. Still even if that happens Cena wins but the Age of Orton continues which will completely suck.
Winner: John Cena
Jon: "Enough is enough and it's time for a change." -Owen Hart
Winner: John Cena
Lonnie: Believe it or not I am finally getting tired of Randy Orton as champion. It has been fun to watch for a while, but with all things that last a long time, I just need change. I think John Cena will pick up the championship here. He has yet to have a major run with belt this year and is still the company’s biggest star. Hopefully a win by Cena can lead to a new challenger coming along that can freshen up the stalest main event scene in recent years.
Winner: John Cena
John Bob: Although it may not be match of the night, this is the match I'm looking forward to. I know it may not seem likely to happen, but I think Orton is going to pull it off. A win over Cena would really soldify him as the main heel in the company and a clean win would be out of this world! I'm thinking Orton will win and then possibly lose to Cena at the next pay-per-view (Breaking Point) since all of the main event matches are suppose to have submission stipulations and Orton doesn't really have a good submission move in his arsenal. So until Breaking Point, the Age of Orton continues.
Winner: Randy Orton
