Backlash 2009
ECW Championship Match
Jack Swagger (©) VS. Christian
Jesse: They had to of brought back Christian for a reason. And I guess it's not to fight Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship. (I hope that comes along down the road.) So let's start my perfect night off right with Christian.
Winner: Christian
Devin: I'm choosing Christian because as I stated last time, Christian is going to when a big match to boost his popularity. Also, The All-American American, Jack Swagger, was talking smack as if he was a challenger on ECW. A real champ doesn't need to talk smack. Plus, there would be nothing better than to see that giant fruity smile of his get turned up side down. The ECW championship is still a second rate title though. Winning it, or in Jack Swagger's case owning it, makes you a second rate champ. A title fit for both since neither are at the level of Cena, Edge, HHH, and hell even Jericho.
Winner: Christian
Jon: They have done nothing with Christian since he came back and it is about time they do. They also need to have a face for Kozlov to feud with. This could be the sleeper of the night as both are good wrestlers. Chalk one up for the Peepulation!
Winner: Christian
Lonnie: Ever since his comeback, Christian has been trying to capture the ECW championship. After winning what was the "chase", he has his opportunity. Christian getting put through a table this past week on ECW means that he has a good shot of winning as the person who gets beat up right before the pay-per-view ends up winning. However, I do not see that being the case here. If Christian wins, he can have a rematch with Swagger and then probably fight Kozlov. For the sole fact that I do not want to see Kozlov in a match that last over a minute, I must go with the All-American.........American.
Winner: Jack Swagger
John Bob: I'm looking forward to this match. Both men are good wrestlers. I'm very grateful we don't have to see another Swagger/Finlay match and I never want to see Swagger/Dreamer or Swagger/Henry. I can picture Christian getting the ECW title but I don't think now is the time. Eventually, he will win it and feud with Vladimir Kozlov. Just not yet. After Backlash, Swagger could face Christian in a rubber match since Christian did beat him a few times on ECW or he (Swagger) can move into a program with Evan Bourne. I wouldn't be suprised if Christian won the title but I personally think it will have to wait another month or so.
Winner: Jack Swagger
Chris Jericho VS. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
Jesse: Oh wonderful WWE, let's waste Chris Jericho's career some more on worthless matches. The Dragon does look good for being 60 or whatever, which is awesome. Too bad The Great Ric Flair retired, or that would be one hell of a match. But back to this one, Jericho won at WM25 so I don't see him winning this one.
Winner: Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
Devin: Steamboat is going to get massacred. I'm sorry but its like Michael Jordan coming back after he retired, good but not that good. Jericho, who I loath more than anyone else beside Vicky Guerreo (Devil Incarnate), is unfortunately going to have fun sinking this steamboat. Hopefully the boat stays at the bottom of river this time. Cause he does not still have it. The people only chanted "You still got it!" because everyone loves to watch a good beat down.
Winner: Chris Jericho
Jon: At WrestleMania Jericho beat three men including Steamboat. Why shouldn't he be able to beat Steamboat one-on-one? Jericho needs to stay credible considering he will be one of the few stars on SmackDown after the draft. Another good showing from Steamboat, but Jericho wins.
Winner: Chris Jericho
Lonnie: Ok...so Jericho could beat three legends at WrestleMania but we are to expect that one legend can beat him here??? Well Jericho got lucky at Mania and is going to get what he deserves at Backlash. To me, there is no reason to have Jericho win here as it does not prove anything and defeats the purpose of having Steamboat come back for more than one match. Go Dragon (And I think everyone else will pick Jericho so I have to go against him).
Winner: Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
John Bob: I had a feeling this was coming once I saw how well Steamboat performed at WrestleMania. Even though Ricky seems to be turning back the clock and having good matches as of late, I say Jericho needs to win this to stay strong before moving to SmackDown. Losing to Ricky will only diminish any credibility Jericho has (although I wouldn't be suprised since Jericho got the win at WrestleMania). Hopefully Ricky realizes that it is important to put over Jericho since he can still look good in a losing effort.
Winner: Chris Jericho
CM Punk VS. Kane
Jesse: CM Punk won MITB. Kane hasn't won anything in what seems like 10 years. I wonder who will win this one.
Winner: CM Punk
Devin: I will have to choose CM Punk. Kane is about as scary as a stuffed teddy bear. A big stuff teddy bear with flames and what not but still Kane has lost more big matches than I can count and CM Punk is on a role. CM Punk even without his finisher is still better than what Kane will unleash. Kane needs a new demon or something because he's been a loser ever since he lost his mask and was in that very average, wanna be scary movie, See No Evil.
Winner: CM Punk
Jon: We just saw this match on Raw I believe. CM Punk won then so I am taking him again in this rematch. They wouldn't want the money in the bank winner to lose credibility by losing to Kane. Sure Kane is good, but he is not a champion nor has he been in the big spotlight recently. How could CM Punk challenge for a title if he can't beat Kane? I am taking Punk in a good match.
Winner: CM Punk
Lonnie: While I am not a fan of CM Punk and do not like anything about his wrestling except his finisher, there is no way that I can pick Kane. When is the last time that he won a big time match on pay-per-view (Not counting killing Chavo early last year)? This is simple in that they need to keep Punk strong so that when he cashes in the briefcase he can be viewed as a credible champion.
Winner: CM Punk
John Bob: Although I'm glad CM Punk is having a match, I hate that it was thrown together last minute. I mean, why are they having a match when Punk beat Kane in two minutes on Raw? Sure, Punk knocked Kane off the ladder at WrestleMania right before winning the money in the bank ladder match, but is that a good enough reason to throw this together at the last minute? I believe one would have to assume that CM Punk wins in order to keep him strong before he enters the main event scene. There is only one way I could Kane winning and that's if the match is first and Punk wins a world title at the end of the night. Then, Kane would be able to be Punk's first challenger since he defeated him earlier in the night. That would be the only reason for Kane to win but I don't think it will happen. Therefore, Punk wins to build some momentum before chasing a title.
Winner: CM Punk
"I Quit" Match
Jeff Hardy VS. Matt Hardy
Jesse: Their WM match was awesome. So I expect nothing less with this one, I hope. Let's just pray they didn't waste all their good moves already. Since Matt won at WM, Jeff will win this one, so we can get one more for the tie-breaker.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Devin: Well Jeff lost last time but I gotta go with him. I can't stand Matt Hardy to begin with and Matt is still a punk to me. I've never seen Jeff quit in anything. Where is MVP? I would enjoy him vs. Matt again. That was at least fun. This match will just be the two of them busting each other again and again and again. The worst part is that it will take forever. If they fight like me and my bro, they will never quit. I might have to go and do some stuff. Maybe use the rest room, get a mountain dew, bake some cookies, and then return to see Matt a bloody mess and saying "I quit" or it may just end in a stalemate. In fact, it probably will but we have to choose so I'm going with Jeff.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Jon: It is sad that the WWE has to keep adding stipulations to these matches to make them decent. Matt got the upper hand at Mania but Jeff should win it here. Matt cost Jeff his title and beat him at WrestleMania. Jeff won't quit.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Lonnie: This feud must end at Backlash!!! It has to happen if they want the brand extension to mean anything. That being said, I think that Matt is going to keep rolling here. He has been beating Jeff in their last few matches and needs this win more than Jeff. Jeff is going to be popular no matter what but Matt needs this win bad to keep him afloat on Raw so that he does not disappear from TV in the near future.
Winner: Matt Hardy
John Bob: I was hoping that there extreme rules match would be there only match against each other. Then, they had a stretcher match which was also won by Matt. After that, Matt was drafted to Raw and I thought we wouldn't have to see them fight again. Well...I was wrong. We now have an "I Quit" match and this will be where the feud ends. Matt is on a roll and has becoming a better heel everytime we see him. Some may say I'm crazy but it would be pointless for Jeff to win this match. Why pointless? Let me explain. Jeff is a merchandise cash cow that is very popular with the fans. He will continue to be popular regardless if he wins this match. Therefore, by losing to Matt, Jeff could help the WWE could develop another main event star in Matt Hardy by putting him over. Another reason why a Jeff win is pointless is because they would each have a pay-per-view victory over the other and that would cause there to be another match between the two to end the feud. So, I say Matt gets a big win and these guys can go there separate ways on their respective brands because not all feuds have to end with both competitors getting pay-per-view wins (See Triple H vs. Batista in 2005).
Winner: Matt Hardy
Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena (©) VS. Edge
Jesse: Holy crap, how many times are we going to see Edge vs. John Cena? I am going to boycott writing anything for this match until WWE listens to me. TURN JOHN CENA HEEL.
Winner: John Cena
Devin: In this situation, there is only one person to go with: John Cena. I think Big Show is going to screw Edge over or something stupid. This match should be Edge vs. Big Show with Cena as the special guest referee. A match for Vickie's cold black heart, but Vickie is that ugly and the ratings may drop for something like that. Especially if the winner kisses her the middle of the ring afterwards, I may never order a pay-per-view again.
Winner: John Cena
Jon: It wouldn't make any sense having Cena win the belt at Mania just to lose it a couple weeks later. Last Monday's action on Raw spells certain doom for Edge as well. Cena should win this one in a good match. It could also end in a draw if they wanted to keep Edge credible but let Cena keep the title.
Winner: John Cena
Lonnie: So John Cena just won the championship a month ago so there is no way that I think he will lose here....BUT Edge is on SmackDown and the show is lacking a major championship so that makes one think that Edge stands a great chance of winning here. Without Vickie by his side it is now Edge's time to flourish and prove that he can win on his own...but it is not going to happen here. Cena is too dominant and with Orton, Batista, and Triple H fighting for the WWE Championship I see them keeping the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw a while longer and then relying on the money in the bank to get SmackDown a championship.
Winner: John Cena
John Bob: When the match was first announced, I thought Cena was sure to win this. However, the Draft has made me think differently about this since both world titles are now on Raw since Triple H was drafted to Raw. Regardless of who wins the six man tag, the WWE Championship is staying on Raw. Then you have to add in the fact that CM Punk was drafted to SmackDown because he currently has the money in the bank briefcase for a title match whenever he wants. Since I don't want both belts on Raw for an extended amount of time, I see this match going a couple different ways. Cena could win and Punk could cash in on him. Edge could win and Punk could cash in on him for the second time and start a rivalry between the two. The last option (the one I think is least likely) would be for Edge to beat Cena and Punk can save his briefcase for another day. Before the last Raw, I was ready to say that Edge was going to pull it off. However, he got the better of Cena. Now, I think Cena is going to roll into Backlash and destroy Edge. CM Punk may or may not cash in the briefcase on Cena but I see Cena winning regardless.
Winner: John Cena
Six Man Tag Team Match for the WWE Championship
If anyone from Legacy wins, Orton becomes champion
If anyone from Triple H's team wins, he retains
Triple H (©), Batista, & Shane McMahon VS. Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, & Cody Rhodes
Jesse: Just what I wanted, a six man tag match. Ok, actually thinking about, this should be a fun little match. But thank god Vince isn't in it. I don't think anybody wanted to see his sun burnt old ass ruin their midnight snack. I have a feeling HHH's team will win to set up an Orton-Batista feud. Thanks and until next time, Go Cavs, F Boston.
Winners: Triple H, Batista, & Shane McMahon
Devin: Yes John, I did pick Orton to win. Bask in it's glory because I can't stand him and I still would like HHH to win. I think Batista, Shane, and HHH will be to busy fighting each other to win. Legacy will be smart and let HHH's team degenerate before actually trying to win. I look at it this way, neither Shane nor Batista have anything to lose if they do lose. Batista still has a chip on his shoulder from Evolution and Shane shouldn't be wrestling anyway. Legacy needs to win the match anyhow because right now there a bunch of thugs living in a club house who might as well be butt buddies. Either that or it is a major bromance. Legacy still wins because the team of HHH, Batista, and Shane is about as strong as our economy.
Winners: Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, & Cody Rhodes
Jon: This is the hardest match for me to pick because so many different things can happen. Both teams had a winning main event match this past week on Raw and SmackDown. This could end clean, with a DQ, or someone turning. I could see Batista or Shane turning on Triple H. I don't see DiBiase or Rhodes turning on Orton though. I have grown fond of Cena and Triple H standing over Orton with the championship belt in hand, but I'm going with team Orton. The simple fact that it is three on three gives Orton a better chance because he has already shown he can't beat Triple H without outside interference. The Age of Orton begins again.
Winners: Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, & Cody Rhodes
Lonnie: So this may be the most retarded way that they have ever defended the WWE Championship. Oh wait....Let's just have history predict this one for us. In 2000, Triple H lost the WWE Championship in a six man tag with Shane McMahon being one of his partners. I am looking for a repeat of history here as I feel that Batista or Shane are going to turn their back on Triple H and cost him his championship so that this feud can continue and possibly set up a triple threat match at Judgment Day between Orton, Triple H, and Batista.
Winners: Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, & Cody Rhodes
John Bob: I'm not sure how it will happen, but this match must end with Legacy picking up the win. There are endless possibilities as to how it could happen. Orton could pin Batista or Shane so Triple H doesn't have to take the fall. Anyone on Triple H's could get disqualified. Lastly and what I believe is most likely, Batista or Shane (or even Vince) will cost Triple H the title and turn heel. If Triple H's team wins, the feud is over and there is nothing for Orton to move on to. Absolutely nothing. In fact, I don't even know who Triple H would face next if his team would win. So regardless of how it happens, Orton, Ted, and Cody will be picking up a much needed win and the Age of Orton will return. As for what is next, I wouldn't be suprised if we don't see an Orton vs. Triple H rematch at Judgment Day (Triple H using rematch clause) or if we see Orton vs. Triple H vs. Batista in a triple threat match at Judgment Day. Regardless of where it leads, Orton holds the title high in the air when Backlash is over.
Winners: Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, & Cody Rhodes
